Joani was 16 years old when she was chosen to produce and host segments on a new show developed by CHEK TV in Victoria, BC. She had a strong background in theatre, photography and writing and chose to submit an application, along with hundreds of other students and was fortunate enough to be given a unique opportunity to have the resources of the television station, including mentors and staff, at her disposal both in studio and on location.
This experience set the trajectory of Joani’s career. Even while raising her six children well before the internet offered many options for media producers, she continued to hone her skills. Many decades after that first television experience Joani found herself back in a television studio, this time hosting and producing segments for Shaw TV. She also produces and hosts a radio show on CHLY 101.7 FM.
One of Joani’s passions is producing shows live and on location. She managed to find a vintage Airstream trailer which is transforming into a mobile production studio, taking her show “CharacterDriven” on the road. She is also continuing to develop her theatre and filmmaking workshops for young media makers using the Airstream as a mobile unit for mentoring kids on location, recording remote audio and video segments and editing.
